Arming doublets werden vanaf de 15e eeuw onder plaatpantser gedragen. De arming doublet was een doorontwikkeling van de gambeson en de 14e eeuwse pourpoint. Aan de binnenkant is de doublet gewatteerd, waardoor hij het lichaam beschermt tegen slagen op harnasonderdelen. In laat Gotische stijl (1450 1500) werden vaak voiders en een malienrok (gousset) aan de arming doublet toegevoegd.
