The shell case used is an MKIV 6 pounder. The markings indicate N = Navy CF = Cordite Filled KN = Kings Norton Metal Company QF 6 Pounder Hotchkiss was a breach loading gun and was initially used on naval vessels. The gun was made obsolete later in the war when larger guns were installed. The 6 Pounder was used in Male British Tanks during WW1
