Conrad was the first student enrolled at the Ulm School of Design founded in 1953 by Inge Aicher Scholl, Otl Aicher, and Max Bill. Conrad took the basic course in typography with Aicher, keeping an exercise book with the presented lessons. That exercise book is now in the possession of Prof. Dr. Ren Spitz of Cologne.
